Activism thwarts water fluoridation in Billings

Petition signatures override city council decision to poison townspeople without a vote

BILLINGS, Mont. -- Outraged by the Billings City Council decision to fluoridate the town's water despite overwhelming public opposition, residents mounted a petition drive and obtained enough signatures to bypass the council and put the issue to a vote in November.

Darrell Nordhagen recalls that the fluoride issue came up in 1967 and 1982 and was defeated both times. “I hope its three times and out,” commented Nordhagen.

The petition circulators plan to educate the community so that it won't vote in favor of allowing a known toxin to be added to its drinking water.
