From the August 2002 Idaho Observer: Activism thwarts water fluoridation in Billings Petition signatures override city council decision to poison townspeople without a vote BILLINGS, Mont. -- Outraged by the Billings City Council decision to fluoridate the town's water despite overwhelming public opposition, residents mounted a petition drive and obtained enough signatures to bypass the council and put the issue to a vote in November. Darrell Nordhagen recalls that the fluoride issue came up in 1967 and 1982 and was defeated both times. I hope its three times and out, commented Nordhagen. The petition circulators plan to educate the community so that it won't vote in favor of allowing a known toxin to be added to its drinking water.
