Dr. Charles A. R. Campbell, discovered the cause and cure of smallpox. Through a series of carefully controlled experiments (even using himself as a subject) Dr. Campbell, along with Dr. J. A. Watts, discovered that smallpox, like yellow fever and malaria, was transmitted by an insect. Cimex lectularius -- the common bedbug--is the insect that spreads smallpox. They also discovered that the disease was neither contagious nor airborne and that vaccinations did not prevent it.

Even more importantly, Dr. Campbell discovered that the severity of the disease was directly proportional to the general ill health and malnutrition of the patient. He spoke of "scorbutic cachexia" and related it to scurvy, the "disease caused by lack of green food." He said, "the removal of this perversion of nutrition will so mitigate the virulence of this malady as to positively prevent the pitting or pocking of smallpox." Dewey Duffel, Vaccination Liberation's webservant, has just added a great page of links on the VacLib website regarding the power of asserting our rights when taking a religious exemption. Since 48 states have such an exemption and forcing a substance cultured in tissue from animals and/or humans and forcing this product into one's bloodstream is really just one of many issues that can qualify as a strong religious conviction, this particular page Dewey put together is a very valuable resource when writing an exemption letter. After all, vegetarianism is becoming more common for ethical and moral reasons; not just health reasons.
